Founder of Telegram Arrested

The founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, has been arrested in France because French authorities say that Telegram has “insufficient moderation” and is “widely used by criminals.”

WhatsApp is also widely used by criminals and perverts. So is Facebook. And Twitter. Why aren’t these founders arrested for content hosted on their platforms? Could it have anything to do with the hosting of leaked Israeli documents from the previous story?

According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Telegram has been the least responsive to taking down leaked documents from the Israeli Justice Ministry. Facebook has removed over 40,000 posts, TikTok has removed over 20,000. But Telegram only removed 1,300 at the behest of the Israeli government.

Durov is a Russian-born citizen of Russia but he also has had French citizenship since 2021. According to RT: “Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow has sent an official note to Paris with a demand for consular access to Telegram’s founder. ‘But he [Durov] has French citizenship, which France perceives as precedential,’ she told RIA-Novosti news agency.”

Many are saying that the U.S. had a hand in this. Would it surprise you if they did?
