Vice President Kamala Harris says that she is “proud to have earned the support needed to become our party’s nominee.” But she didn’t earn it. She was not chosen by the American voters, she was chosen by Democratic kingmakers and donors.
On Monday, at least 2,200 delegates had pledged to support her nomination as the Democratic Presidential candidate, which is a majority of the 3,949 delegates. Now she will hit the road, she says, “traveling across the country talking to Americans about everything on the line. I fully intend to unite our party and our nation, and defeat Donald Trump.”
What are her chances of doing that? Early polls indicate that she does not are much better than Joe Biden. ABC News says thatthe polls do not “mean that Harris will run notably stronger than Biden, only that she could.” Several polls show Trump ahead of Harris by even more than he was leading Biden.
President Biden had agreed to debate President Trump in September but it is not clear if Vice President Harris will honor that commitment. Senator Vance says that he is “kind of pissed off” that he won’t get the chance to debate her due to her promotion in the campaign. So who will he debate? Taking bets.
