I am sitting here watching Fox News call for an all-out war with Iran and pretend that the Israel conflict with other Arab countries began on October 7. And I am praying for us all because no diplomacy is even on the table.

It feels as if it is 2001 all over again and we are being sold a war with Afghanistan, ignoring decades of intelligence that would have told us all that a war with Afghanistan was unwinnable and would only lead to innocent civilian death.

Iran launched close to 200 missiles into Israel on Tuesday in retaliation for many things. Iran says that the attacks were aimed at military targets in occupied territories. So far, one death has been recorded and the victim was reportedly a Palestinian. Iran called this “Operation Honest Promise 2.” Israel has promised a major retaliation and the U.S. says that it will support whatever that means.

Before the missile strike, Israel suffered a terrorist shooting in Tel Aviv which killed at least seven people and wounded 17. A mother with her 9-month-old baby strapped to her was killed, but strangers saved the baby.

On the same day, Israel launched a ground invasion into Lebanon, which the United Nations has condemned. The U.N. launched a “$426 million appeal for Lebanon on Tuesday to support one million people uprooted by widespread Israeli shelling.”

Because of this, Israel has banned the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres from entering Israel.

The United Nations is meeting today in an emergency meeting aimed to call for immediate de-escalation but there will be no vote or resolution today. What we should watch for is who expresses solidarity with whom. The U.S. is green-lighting Israel to retaliate while asking them to withdraw from Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. How far will the U.S. go? What makes us think that we can win a war against Iran that would pit the U.S. against Russia, Pakistan, Syria, and other Arab countries? It’s a dangerous time.
