President Biden’s son Hunter Biden says that the Justice Department decided to “renege on the previously agreed-upon plea agreement.” This was the slap-on-the-wrist deal he was offered for a litany of bad behavior that a judge recently rejected.
On Friday, the Justice Department appointed a special counsel to take over the investigation. The counsel will be led by Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss.
Lawyers for Hunter Biden filed a response to the government’s Motion to Vacate on Sunday. It says that the plea deal was “proposed and largely dictated” by prosecutors for the government. Meaning: Is it the Biden team’s fault that he was offered such favorable terms?
Weiss’ team has filed a motion asking the judge in Delaware to dismiss this case so that they can take a fresh swing at it. According to the Wall Street Journal, “It said it now expected the case against him to go to trial, and it needed to try the case elsewhere, including in California, where Biden lived during the years at issue in the case.”
