The U.S. vowed continued aid to Israel after Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s trip to Tel Aviv on Monday.

Secretary Austin said this: “Let me be clear: our support for Israel’s security remains unshakeable. And it always will be.”

He said that the U.S. will keep pushing for the safe return of hostages in Gaza. He said nothing of the Palestinian hostages that Israel has had for far longer. He did say that “protecting Palestinian civilians in Gaza is both a moral duty and a strategic imperative” but he did not say how he would do that because it has not been happening since Israel’s retaliation for the October 7 terror attack.

He said that he would like to see a “surgical” war. There is no such thing.

Secretary Austin also announced Operation Prosperity Guardian on Monday. It is a military operation in the Red Sea aimed at protecting trade in that region after attacks on commercial shipping by Yemen’s Houthis. We covered this war on Monday’s episode of Redacted.
