Hamas wants assurances that Israel will withdraw from Gaza in order to agree to the U.S. ceasefire proposal but U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinkin says that these proposals are not “workable.”

The U.S. would never presume to ask Israel to withdraw from Gaza. Especially since Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made no bones about his desire to keep IDF presence in Gaza. He has not committed to withdrawing from Gaza in any way, despite this peace proposal.

Hamas wants assurances that the ceasefire would be permanent and Israel would withdraw from Gaza, which is a fairly rational request. Many Israeli officials want that too but they fear that Netanyahu’s bloodlust will tank the deal. It seems those fears are founded.
