Ukraine has banned another opposition party, the Nash Krai (Our Land) political party. This is the second party to be banned since the war with Russia began in 2022.
A court ordered the party to ban the party and seize all property, funds and assets of the party and hand them over to the state. What did they do to deserve this? Unclear. The party portends to be a defender of local interests and communities and opposes a government that puts its own interest ahead of the interest of communities.
The New York Times just woke up to the fact that Ukraine is also antagonistic to the media. The paper reports that Ukraine has subjected journalists to “increasing restrictions and pressure from the government of President Volodymyr Zelensky.” One journalist who was critical of the government received a draft notice the next day. Others are being spied on by the Ukrainian spy agency, the SBU.
This is well known, but politicians pretend not to know it when discussing the defense of Ukraine. The U.S. State Department’s recent report on Ukraine notes all of this.
