The Acting Director of the Secret Service Ronald Rowe Jr. says that he is “ashamed” of how the Secret Service failed to prevent an assassination attempt on former President Trump and that he will make some changes to the way the agency operates from now on.
Director Rowe actually visited the site of the crime, which is more than former Director Kimberly Cheatle did before testifying before Congress.
“What I saw made me ashamed,” Mr. Rowe said to a Senate committee. He said that it was a “failure on multiple levels.”
“As a career law enforcement officer, and a twenty-five-year veteran with the Secret Service, I cannot defend why that roof was not better secured.” He added that: “To prevent similar lapses from occurring in the future, I directed our personnel to ensure every event site security plan is thoroughly vetted by multiple experienced supervisors before it is implemented.”
Former President Trump has agreed to meet with the FBI in their investigation of the assassination attempt. That would seem a reasonable thing to do if the FBI had not been leading multiple investigations against the President. One would hope his lawyer would be present to prevent him from speaking about other investigations.
