U.S. military bases are under tightened security since the alleged attackers in two terror attacks on New Year’s Day were U.S. military members.
In Las Vegas, active-duty Green Beret Master Sgt. Matthew Alan Livelsberger allegedly “drove a rented Tesla Cybertruck in front of the Trump Hotel, which then exploded, setting off fuel and fireworks inside the car.” In New Orleans, Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar, “drove a rented truck into a crowd and opened fire on people before being shot and killed.”
Authorities say the two attacks are not connected.
The FBI says that the Jabbar crossed “state and international borders” to carry out this attack and that he used Meta smart glasses to map out the attack. The FBI’s video shows Shamsud-Din Jabbar wearing the glasses as he planted explosives around the city.
ABC reports that he had traveled to Egypt and Canada in 2023 and left a video for his family admitting to having joined ISIS. Jabbar was shot dead during the attack so investigators are piecing together clues but authorities still insist that he acted alone. Will those Meta glasses tell the same story?
