President Trump on Wednesday signed an Executive Order to “TERMINATE all taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal aliens and END the subsidization of open borders.”

The order points out that the law already prohibits this from happening, via the “Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (Public Law 104-193) (PRWORA).” But of course we know that it still happens and happened increasingly under the Biden administration.

The order calls for officials to “identify all federally funded programs administered by the agency that currently permit illegal aliens to obtain any cash or non-cash public benefit, and, consistent with applicable law, take all appropriate actions to align such programs with the purposes of this order and the requirements of applicable Federal law, including the PRWORA.”

Many states will still offer benefits to non-citizen migrants though. California and Oregon offer full medical care and housing subsidies so can they still do that? Only if they use their own money. This order says that states cannot use Federal payments to “facilitate the subsidization or promotion of illegal immigration, or abet so-called “sanctuary” policies that seek to shield illegal aliens from deportation.”
