It appears President Trump will get his way with Ukrainian rare earth minerals. Ukrainian President Zelensky is expected to sign a deal with the U.S. as early as Friday, possibly in person with President Trump.

The deal will give the U.S. rights to Ukraine’s minerals. The thing is, Ukraine lost most of the places that have the minerals to Russia in the war. Most of Ukraine’s minerals are now Russia’s minerals so Ukraine has little to give but what they’ve got left will be mined and refined by the U.S. if President Trump has his way. This is what the President wants in exchange for the billions in aid that the U.S. has sent to Ukraine.

President Trump also wants to make a deal with Russian President Putin for access to their minerals too and Russia is reportedly game. According to President Putin, Russia is keen to begin “joint projects” with the U.S., which could involve a collaboration on aluminium extraction and supply to the US to stabilise prices.

For all of this to happen, the war in this region needs to end and the White House seems confident that a peace deal is imminent. Meanwhile, European leaders keep trying to act as if it isn’t. The Wall Street Journal says that European leaders are seeking to “Perfect the Art of Trump Whispering.” Lol. Good luck with that.
