President Trump says that has spoken with Russian President Putin and that the phone call was “lengthy and highly productive.”
He says that they agreed to “have our respective teams start negotiations immediately, and we will begin by calling President Zelenskyy, of Ukraine, to inform him of the conversation.”
Notice he is speaking of a peace deal and Zelensky is not being asked. He’s being told. Because Zelensky has no say here and never did.
On Wednesday, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said that the United States does not plan to deploy troops to defend Ukraine as part of any peace deal and that a peace deal will NOT involve Russia giving back the territory of people who voted to become Russia. He also said that “the US does not believe that NATO membership for Ukraine is a realistic outcome of a negotiated settlement.”
To save face, Zelensky said on X that he is in talks with President Trump and that he believes that “America’s strength, together with Ukraine and all our partners, is enough to push Russia to peace.”
What a dolt! He passed laws preventing himself from going to peace talks with Russia. Russia has offered peace talks since the war began.
President Trump also said that he discussed with President Putin “visiting each other’s Nations.” That is inconceivable! To have a diplomatic relationship with Russia again that could include visits with heads of state! To think we were on the verge of nuclear war just four months ago!
