The federal government announced a lawsuit against the state of New York, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, New York AG Letitia James and Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Mark Schroeder over the sanctuary status of New York. This was announced by Attorney General Pamela Bondi on Wednesday.

“This is a new DOJ,” Bondi said. “New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops. It stops today. As you know, we sued Illinois and New York didn’t listen so now you’re next.

The New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) issued a statement in response to the lawsuit, saying: “This filing is yet another Trump administration attempt to shamelessly weaponize the Department of Justice to intimidate political opponents and exert improper political pressure.” They added that it “represent a gross intrusion into New York’s constitutional right to legislate in areas traditionally within its concern.”

The NYCLU is presumably not named in the case but no doubt they will insert themselves.

Bondi warned that New York is only one state on her radar, saying: “If you don’t comply with federal law, we will hold you accountable. If you are a state not complying with federal law, you’re next, get ready.”
