President Biden issued a blanket pardon for his son Hunter Biden dating back to 2014, something he has repeatedly vowed NOT to do.

President Biden also said on the 2020 campaign trail that he had nothing to do with his son’s businesses and that turned out to be a lie so no one should have expected him to keep his word on the pardon. Still, the blatant nepotism is a Game of Thrones move. I’d say Hunter is Joffrey Baratheon in this instance and he should avoid all pie.

“No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son – and that is wrong,” the President’s statement said.

So…there is political retribution in the Justice Department then? I thought Democrats called that a MAGA talking point.

We have looked at the facts of the case and we conclude he was singled out for privileged treatment, not harsher treatment. He was offered a sweetheart deal, which a judge rejected, he was never charged with sex crimes related to minors, he was never charged with acting as a foreign agent, which he clearly did and IRS whistleblowers have been punished for trying to look deeper into his business dealings.

There is extra irony here in that the 1994 Crime Bill that then-Senator Biden authored has put countless people in jail for the crime that his son will now walk away with.

The two whistleblowers, Special Agent Gary Shapley and Special Agent Joe Ziegler, released this statement: “No amount of lies or spin can hide the simple truth that the Justice Department nearly let the President’s son off the hook for multiple felonies. We did our duty, told the truth, and followed the law. Anyone reading the President’s excuses now should remember that Hunter Biden admitted to his tax crimes in federal court, that Hunter Biden’s attorneys have targeted us for our lawful whistleblower disclosures, and that we are suing one of those attorneys for smearing us with false accusations. President Biden has the power to put his thumb on the scales of justice for his son, but at least he had to do it with a pardon explicitly for all the world to see rather than his political appointees doing it secretly behind the scenes. Either way it is a sad day for law abiding taxpayers to witness this special privilege for the powerful.”
