Democrats want to hold a virtual vote to speed up President Biden’s nomination for the 2024 Democratic ticket. The Democratic National Committee argues that this is necessary to beat a deadline in Ohio for placing a candidate on the ballot but Ohio has already extended the deadline to accommodate for this. So..is there another reason to do this?
At least three House Democrats oppose this plan. Representatives Susan Wild, Mike Quigley, and Jared Huffman say it is wrong.
“Stifling debate and prematurely shutting down any possible change in the Democratic ticket through an unnecessary and unprecedented ‘virtual roll call’ in the days ahead is a terrible idea,” said a copy of the draft letter seen by Reuters. “It could deeply undermine the morale and unity of Democrats.”
Democrats are saying that rushing through the nomination is a “Trumpian maneuver.” When did Trump do something like this? He hasn’t. Their argument is that he would do things like this. In other words, they are removing their party’s ability to participate in the democratic process which is what we tell everyone Trump would do while they do it.
