House Speaker Mike Johnson yanked a government funding bill just before putting it up for a vote after several Republicans said that they would not support it.

The bill included a provision to overhaul voting laws but that was a ruse. No major voting laws will be changed this late in the election. The bill also included NO spending cuts so this debt ceiling bit will happen again under the speaker’s proposals.

Representative Thomas Massie went viral this week for this video in which he calls the bill “failure theater” and vowing to vote no on it.

Other Republicans opposed the bill because it did not include enough money for defense. Right. We don’t spend enough on defense? Ah hem.

Speaker Johnson will reportedly go back to the drawing board to think of a way to avert a government shutdown by September 30.
