Hunter Biden suddenly dropped his lawsuit against Fox News on the same day that his father announced that he would drop his bid for re-election. That’s odd, right? It would almost seem as though he were emboldened by his political position and now he is not.
The suit involved publication of explicit images and a six-part series posted online that included a mock trial of the younger Biden. The images are real and came from Biden’s own laptop, which we all now know was real too. Hunter Biden’s team dropped the suit although ABC News reports that they intend to refile it with new defendants. The suit always seemed like a crazy thing to pursue. Fox News could argue that the images were newsworthy and drag them even further into public consciousness. Why expose yourself (pun intended) further?
Also on Monday, a judge dismissed a case against Fox News by Nina Jankowicz, a former Biden administration official who was taken to task over her role on the Disinformation Board, not just by Fox but by the Internet. She had sued Fox News for hurting her feelings but a judge ruled that Fox’s statements about Jankowicz were often “accurate, broadly speaking, or fell into the categories of opinion or statements that could not be disproven.”
Jankowicz has made a brand about lecturing people about “disinformation.” She crowdfunded her legal fees to sue fox and raised over $80,000. She says that she will appeal the ruling but in legal fees, $80,000 may not get her very far.
