Israel took up a vote in the Knesset on Wednesday regarding recognition of a Palestinian state. The result was a resounding no with 99 votes against it. Perhaps most surprising is that there were some who voted in favor.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this: “The Knesset came together in an overwhelming majority against the attempt to impose on us the establishment of a Palestinian state, which would not only fail to bring peace but would endanger the State of Israel.”
More extreme members of the Knesset said this:
“You will die, your children will die, your grandchildren will die, there won’t be a Palestinian state, there will never be.” – Hanoch Milbitsky
“I am personally proud of the ruins of Gaza, and that every baby, even 80 years from now, will tell their grandchildren what the Jews did.” – May Golan, Israel’s Minister for Advancement of Women.
Is this making Israel safer? Not today it didn’t. Two men from the West Bank allegedly went on a shooting spree in Jerusalem, killing one and injuring at least 12 people. Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir said that Israel will respond with more guns.
“We’re distributing more and more guns. I think that today, everyone understands that guns save lives,” he said.
