Lockheed Martin’s New Weapon

Lockheed Martin is working on a tool to “detect and defeat disinformation” from a $37.2 million grant from the U.S. government.

Why would a weapons maker work on an algorithm tool? That idea makes me a little nervous. What about you?

According to Reclaim The Net, “the tool – called the Semantic Forensics (SemaFor) program – [can analyze] everything: news, the internet, and even entertainment media. Text, audio, images, and video that are part of what’s considered ‘large-scale automated disinformation attacks’ are supposed to be detected and labeled as false by the tool.

“The development process is almost over, and the prototype is used by the US Defense Department’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).”

Why would the U.S. government want to do this? Let your imagination run wild as to why and whatever you come up with, you’re probably right.
