The Lead: More Money Going to Ukraine

credit: giphy

The Pentagon approved another $1.7 billion in weapons for Ukraine on Friday.

Why does some aide need Congressional approval and some can just be handed over? Political dealing is the answer. Some of the money comes from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) and the rest uses  Presidential Drawdown Authority, which allows President Biden to ship weapons to Ukraine directly from Pentagon stockpiles.

The aide that comes through USAI could take months to be delivered though. The weapons will include air defense systems, ammunition for HIMARS rocket systems, artillery shells, and more. The Pentagon says that the U.S. has committed $56.1 billion in aid to Ukraine since President Biden took office. A possible Harris administration would keep that going despite a record U.S. debt. Kamala Takes The Lead

credit: ap

Professor Allan Lichtman of American University has predicted the presidential winner in every U.S. election since 1984. He went viral this week for predicting that Kamala Harris will win the presidency in November.

He uses 13 factors, or “keys” as he calls them. He admits that there are still some outliers that make him less confident in his prediction, namely that Harris was not primaried to earn this nomination and he would like to see how the Democratic National Convention plays out in August. His current Harris prediction is a placeholder and he says that he will make his final prediction after the convention.

RealClearPolitics shows that Trump leads in all but two polls in battleground states but Harris is clearly making gains where President Biden could not.

News By The Numbers

$35 trillion. That is the U.S. national debt, a record reached on Monday. According to the House Budget Committee, that debt equates to $104,497 per person, $266,275 per household and $483,889 per American child. The debt increased by $2.35 trillion in the last year alone.

100. That is how many children Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram, claims that he has fathered through sperm donations.

€1.5 billion. That is how much Paris spent to try to clean up the Seine river to host the Olympic triathlon but it didn’t really work. The triathlon had to be delayed due to high levels of E. coli contamination but officials say that they may be able to hold it on Wednesday. If you were a competitor, would you find that comforting?

Meet The New Head Of The Secret Service

The Acting Director of the Secret Service Ronald Rowe Jr. says that he is “ashamed” of how the Secret Service failed to prevent an assassination attempt on former President Trump and that he will make some changes to the way the agency operates from now on.

Director Rowe actually visited the site of the crime, which is more than former Director Kimberly Cheatle did before testifying before Congress.

“What I saw made me ashamed,” Mr. Rowe said to a Senate committee. He said that it was a “failure on multiple levels.”

“As a career law enforcement officer, and a twenty-five-year veteran with the Secret Service, I cannot defend why that roof was not better secured.” He added that: “To prevent similar lapses from occurring in the future, I directed our personnel to ensure every event site security plan is thoroughly vetted by multiple experienced supervisors before it is implemented.”

Former President Trump has agreed to meet with the FBI in their investigation of the assassination attempt. That would seem a reasonable thing to do if the FBI had not been leading multiple investigations against the President. One would hope his lawyer would be present to prevent him from speaking about other investigations.

Israel Arrests 9 IDF Soldiers For Rape… (why now?)

giphy.gifcredit: reuters

Israel arrested nine soldiers on charges that they raped a Palestinian prisoner so bad that the victim could not walk. The soldiers reportedly resisted arrest by barricading themselves in the detention center and defending themselves with pepper spray but they were eventually taken into custody.

Anyone who has studied Israeli detention of Palestinians knows that this is not new and has been happening since long before October 7. Why arrest these rapists now? Why this victim? Some say that this was intended as a show to the International Criminal Court to prove that Israel could be trusted to hold its soldiers accountable.

That has backfired as protestors are protesting the arrests. Protestors are against… accountability for rape? They are demanding impunity to rape? Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the faction that stormed the detention center and called for “immediate calming of spirits.”

Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir condemned the arrest of the soldiers as “shameful” and called them the “best heroes.” He said the message to the world should be this: “light treatment of terrorists is over. Soldiers need to have our full support.” In other words: prisoners shall expect to be raped to the point of hospitalization.

That is against all international laws of human rights. Someone wanna tell him that?

What’s Trending?

credit: giphy

“Weird” is trending because that seems to be the Democratic talking point for how to attack Republicans. Is that effective? All politicians are a little weird. You have to be weird to want to go into politics at all, right?

Dollywood is trending because the amusement park was hit with a flash flood on Sunday.

GB News is trending because the news channel has been banned in Wales for no other reason than a clear attempt to censor. Politicians say that the channel is “deliberately offensive, demeaning to public debate and contrary to our parliament’s values.” A news network that does not offend politicians is state-run media.
