Lead: The Presidential Debate in Philadelphia

credit: Getty Images

President Trump’s last debate literally ended Joe Biden’s presidency. No pressure on Kamala Harris tonight in Philadelphia!

ABC News set the rules that will mute the candidates microphones when their opponent is speaking and will disallow notes. The Harris campaign had pushed to keep the microphones live because they were banking on President Trump interrupting her, which could show him being disrespectful and give her another “I’m speaking” moment.

The candidates will be given a pen, pad and bottle of water but will not be allowed to bring notes or props. They will also not be allowed to ask one another questions; only the moderators will ask questions. They will be allowed to make closing statements and the Trump team won a coin toss allowing him to have the last word and deliver his statement last.

This is a big debate since the polls are so close. Most polls still show President Trump in the lead but if he shows himself to be pushy or disrespectful to Kamala Harris, it could turn off undecided voters. If he makes the same case President Ronald Reagan made in a 1980 debate against President Jimmy Carter, it could be a major victory. In that debate, Reagan asked this about the Carter administration: “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?”

Every measure of progress points to a resounding no to that question. Under the Biden/Harris administration, childhood poverty has doubled, hundreds of thousands of unaccompanied children have been lost at the border, joblessness is increasing, inflation is skyrocketing, housing prices are soaring, the national debt is out of control and the military budget is ever increasing and leading to endless wars abroad. Will Harris have an answer for this?

Redacted will have special live coverage tonight for our Redacted+ members. If you’re a Redacted+ member come hang out with us tonight and watch the debate. You can join right here.

Ukraine Tries to Expand The War Into Russia

Ukraine struck residential apartment blocks outside of Moscow as it continues its raid on Russian territory. It is worth repeating that President Biden promised the U.S. that Ukraine would not do this and in the last month they are doing it more than ever!

Ukraine continues to play dirty against civilians as they lose territory in the regions where the war actually is happening. Russia continues to gain ground. On Tuesday, Russia announced that they had “liberated” four new territories in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). Ukraine will not, cannot and should not regain control of these regions so they instead are sending their attacks inside of Russia.

Russia says that it has a plan to stop the attacks in the Kursk region.

This week, former US State Department official Victoria Nuland acknowledged that the U.S. and U.K. discouraged Ukraine from signing a peace deal with Russia in 2022. She said that Ukraine asked for their advice “late in the game” and that the U.S. identified conditions in the contract that were unfavorable to Ukraine so they advised them against signing it. She’s a deatheater and responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths in that region and so is Boris Johnson.

News By The Numbers

Five. That is how many prisoners escaped a high-security prison in Portugal this week. They appeared to have help scaling the 6-meter wall from the outside and are thought to have escaped by the sea.

47. That is how many inmates escaped from a maximum-security prison in Liberia on Monday. What is going on!?

1,500. That is how many times the BBC “breached its own editorial guidelines… during the height of the Israel-Hamas war,” according to a new report.

Lockheed Martin’s New Weapon

Lockheed Martin is working on a tool to “detect and defeat disinformation” from a $37.2 million grant from the U.S. government.

Why would a weapons maker work on an algorithm tool? That idea makes me a little nervous. What about you?

According to Reclaim The Net, “the tool – called the Semantic Forensics (SemaFor) program – [can analyze] everything: news, the internet, and even entertainment media. Text, audio, images, and video that are part of what’s considered ‘large-scale automated disinformation attacks’ are supposed to be detected and labeled as false by the tool.

“The development process is almost over, and the prototype is used by the US Defense Department’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).”

Why would the U.S. government want to do this? Let your imagination run wild as to why and whatever you come up with, you’re probably right.

Oregon Found Out The Hard Way

It turns out that legalizing hard drugs is not a great idea. The state of Oregon has reintroduced penalties for drug use because decriminalization failed miserably. It turns out that when hard drugs are legal, people die more. Who’d have thought!?

Three years ago, Oregon “decriminalized user possession of hard drugs—including fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin—making it a noncriminal violation on par with a traffic ticket.” It offered users an option of rehab but most of them did not take up that option. Instead, overdoses skyrocketed by 61%. Overdoses from fentanyl alone surged by 600%.

The treatment program cost the state tens of millions of dollars and “only a few dozen people” used it while the rest went wild and died. This is not a compassionate drug program. It’s more cruel to let people destroy themselves. As journalist Michael Shellenberger points out in his book “San Fransicko,” when users are not forced into treatment and given free access to drugs, those in on the homeless industrial complex will say that “the experiment was a success but the patients died.” That’s not a success, is it?

What’s Trending?

Kate Middleton is trending because she released this video announcing that she has completed chemotherapy for her cancer and will be returning to her royal duties slowly. I’m thrilled for her but it still doesn’t explain why the palace lied and placed so many doppelgängers in public.

Apple is trending because the company announced its new lineup of iPhones, Apple Watches and AirPods as well as all new software features.

Harvey Weinstein is trending because he was reportedly rushed to the hospital for emergency heart surgery.
