Happy Wednesday.

Liberals are threatening to boycott Oscar De La Renta for dressing Second Lady Usha Vance during inaugural events but The Telegraph reports that this “won’t present a huge problem since the crossover between Democrat voters and De la Renta fans is already vanishingly small.”

The Lead: Zelensky Asks for U.S. Troops in Ukraine

  credit: ap

Ukrainian President Zelensky asked for U.S. troops to be sent to the front lines of the war with Russia. He’s surely lost his ever-loving mind.

During the Biden administration, Zelensky repeatedly promised that Ukraine could fight the war on their own as long as NATO allies sent weapons. Now that President Trump has paused all foreign aid, he wants troops!? The nerve of this guy!

Zelensky said that these allied troops “will not have a relaxed time.” When an interviewer asked if he wanted them on the front line he said, “Yes, with our people of course. Yes, because this means security and that’s it. It can’t be without United States.”

He explained that without the United States, other European allies would not risk supporting Ukraine.

Zelensky did say that he believes President Trump and Chinese President Xi Xinping could bring about a peace deal with Russia. The Chinese President held a video call with Russian President Putin on Tuesday to discuss collaborating on a peace deal. According to Russian state media, “Putin informed Xi that Moscow is ready to engage with the new US administration on this issue.”

Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Battle

credit: president of ukraine

More than a dozen states have joined together to sue the Trump administration over the President’s executive order that ends birthright citizenship.

The case was filed in Massachusetts as a joint effort between the Attorneys General in Massachusetts and New York and it was joined by the following other states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin.

Washington, Arizona, Illinois and Oregon are also challenging this in a separate joint case.

They argue that “the principle of birthright citizenship has been enshrined in the Constitution for more than 150 years [and that] the Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment unambiguously and expressly confers citizenship on ‘all persons born’ in and ‘subject to the jurisdiction’ of the United States.”

The “subject to the jurisdiction” part is where the argument lies and it could get extremely technical. The Trump administration expected this fight and they expect to take it all the way to the Supreme Court where we may yet get a SCOTUS interpretation.

Ross Ulbricht Promise Kept

credit: free ross

President Trump made good on his promise to pardon Ross Ulbricht. This was a deal he made with libertarian supporters during his campaign. He had to keep this promise but it is always surprising when politicians keep their promises.

Ross Ulbricht was arrested by an FBI sting at a library in San Francisco in 2013 for running Silk Road, a Bitcoin marketplace where some  but not all – people sold contraband. Federal prosecutors also accused him of plotting a murder but the victim himself has said that he doesn’t think that Ulbricht put a hit on him. The government’s case was…let’s just say not rock solid but CNN says he is “very dangerous.” Ulbricht’s lawyers say that he tried to make a plea deal but the government denies that. He was sentenced to TWO life sentences plus 40 years without the possibility of parole.

Convicted murderers and rapists get smaller sentences than that. Libertarians believe he was targeted for creating a Bitcoin marketplace that the U.S. government could not track or control.

So what is to become of him now? He is 40 years old and has been imprisoned for nearly a decade. While in prison, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science through the Prison University Project.

He has been in contact with Representative Thomas Massie and in this letter, he says that he has been preparing to “help further the cause of freedom.”

What’s Trending?

Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde is trending because she led a post-inauguration prayer breakfast on Tuesday for the President, Vice President and their families and took the opportunity to lecture them on politics. President Trump hit back with this post calling her a “Radical Left hard line Trump hater” and demanding a public apology. She was on The View and said that she “wanted to emphasize respecting the honor and dignity of every human being.”

Ben Shelton is trending for saying that tennis players have been disrespectfully by broadcasters and that he wants “something to change.”

Samsung Galaxy S25 is trending because Samsung will announce the new phone today at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event.

5″ to 12″. That is how much snow fall some part of Florida have experienced since Monday. Governor Ron DeSantis issued a state of emergency because Florida is not accustomed to this.

$1 million. That is how much the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) says that its now-detained army chief psychiatrist has made through “illegal enrichment” since the start of the war with Russia in 2022. They say the unnamed man now has “three apartments in or near Kyiv, one in Odesa, two plots of land and several BMW luxury cars, and investigators searching his home also found $152,000 (£124,000) and €34,000 in cash.” You don’t say…

$7.99. That is the new price for an ad-supported Netflix account, up by $1 per month. The premium tier is increasing by $2, to $24.99.

Get Ready for Ai Vaccines??

credit: open AI

The first day of the Trump administration came with a surprising announcement that has a lot of people worried about…AI vaccines? Who voted for this?

The Trump administration announced The Stargate Project. It is: “a new company which intends to invest $500 billion over the next four years building new AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States….This project will not only support the re-industrialization of the United States but also provide a strategic capability to protect the national security of America and its allies.”

In the press conference from the Oval Office, Oracle founder Larry Ellison discussed individual mRNA cancer vaccines. He described it as such: “Using AI to look at the blood test, you can find the cancers that are actually seriously threatening the person…. Then beyond that, once we gene sequence that cancer tumor, you can then vaccinate the person, design a vaccine for every individual person to vaccinate them against that cancer. You can make that mRNA vaccine robotically, again using AI, in about 48 hours. So imagine early cancer detection, the development of a cancer vaccine for your particular cancer aimed at you. This is the promise of AI and the promise of the future.”

I’ll pass on this, not just because the mRNA technology is experimental and unproven but also for this reason: What if these blood tests become mandated for insurance and your insurance could be canceled if you refuse said vaccine?

Elon Musk shot down the project on X saying, “They don’t actually have the money.”
