Happy Monday.

Mt. Washington in New Hampshire was as cold as Mars this weekend, with a temperature of 110 below zero!  Wind gusts reached 127 miles per hour. Somehow this camera survived.

The Lead: A Lot of Hot Air?

So the narrative goes that the U.S. tracked what they called a "Chinese spy balloon" over the continental U.S. and then shot it down and President Biden is being congratulated for making a declarative decision. This happened just before Secretary of State Antony Blinken was set to meet with Chinese President Xi Xinping and because of this awkward event, the meeting was postponed

Only, the spy balloon, according to China, was a weather forecasting device that is used by many developed countries around the world. The Washington Post confirms this. And given the low technology of a balloon, it is easy to see how it could veer off course.

Also, a spy balloon would not offer any more intel than China could otherwise get from satellite imagery or high-tech drones. The Pentagon admitted that too.

So what is this really? A conservative reaction to possible foreign interference or an attempt to disrupt what might otherwise be a U.S.-China detente? A false flag to drum up support for a war with China? I tend to agree with Chinese analyst Arnaud Bertrand that it is a "sad reflection of the insane times we live in, when rather than take the time to carefully consider facts, apply reason and common sense, we instead choose as a society to incite fear and hostility."

Ethiopia Slipping Back Into Violence

credit: reuters

The Orthodox Church in Ethiopia is accusing Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of increasing tensions and may be on the verge of major protests.

Prime Minister Ahmed spoke out about clergy members who were recently excommunicated. He warned his cabinet members not to get involved in church affairs because both sides "have truths." This prompted the church to lash out at the Prime Minister, accusing him of recognizing an "illegitimate power-hungry group."

The church says that the excommunicated faction is killing Christians and has the support of the Ahmed government. This an extremely sensitive topic and indicative of a breakdown between the church and the Prime Minister, which was strong when Ahmed took office.

Wall Street Doesn't Want You To Know This

World leaders are destroying our savings through skyrocketing inflation, a declining U.S. dollar, and stock market that's propped up by fake money.  The number one to protect yourself is by having a Self-Direct IRA. Yes, a self-directed IRA that lets you invest in real estate inside of the IRA. Wall Street won't tell you about self-directed accounts because they can't make money off of you when you control your own account.

This is an account that YOU control, not Fidelity, Charles Schwab, Vanguard or anyone else, with all of their hidden fees and exposure to the stock market. All profits, earnings and appreciation inside of your Self-Directed IRA are tax-deferred if held in a Traditional SDIRA and have the potential to be tax-free if held in a Roth Self-Directed IRA.

The team at Morris Invest can get your self-directed account set up in about 10 minutes for FREE. Just click here and then click on the "book a call" button. And then, the full-service team at Morris Invest can help you use that account to lower your tax burden by investing in new construction real estate right inside of your new SDIRA account. It's that simple.

By owning cash-flowing real estate inside of an SDIRA, you get:

  • Tax-free growth
  • Appreciation of the property as a hedge against inflation
  • Lower your tax burden
  • Wealth preservation
  • The ability to use bank leverage to buy the real estate inside the account.
  • Peace of mind

Business owners can set up a Self-Directed SEP or SoloK and contribute up to 60k of their earned income every year- which makes your taxable income less (you can pay off a property faster this way or add a property every year with bank leverage!) You could buy a property every year with the contribution alone!

Visit their website today and see what Morris Invest can do for you. They've got a great video on the front page too!

Ukraine's Pinky Promise

Ukraine has promised not to strike Russia with long-range missiles sent by the U.S. They say that they will only strike into the Donbas region, an area they've been shelling for 9 years.

The U.S. agreed to send longer-range missiles to Ukraine on Friday that would double their strike range. The worry has been that Russia would retaliate against the West and that worry remains, despite this pinky promise

Citizens of the Donbas region voted overwhelmingly to become a part of Russia and Russia considered this a done deal. The West does not so it has no objection to Ukraine striking that region. One strike killed at least three people in Donetsk on Saturday. Last week, Ukraine used American made HIMARS weapons to strike a hospital killing multiple civilians.

Peace continues to elude in this region. Former Israeli Prime Minister Neftali Bennett admitted this weekend that the West has been thwarting peace deals from the beginning.

The Health Benefits of Commuting to Work

credit: getty

Could commuting to work be good for you? A recent study suggests that it might be because it allows workers to decompress in their own "liminal space."

Researchers say that commuting is healthy because we may need to be in between home and work in order to "mentally shift gears." Without that mental disengagement, people can experience more stress and burnout.

Researchers say that remote workers miss out on this decompression strategy. People with longer-than-average commutes reported "higher levels of psychological detachment from work and were more relaxed during the commute."

Unless the commute was stressful. A bad traffic jam or train delay can take away all of those benefits obviously unless you are a zen master.
