There is a talmudic saying: “We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are.”
That statement is poignant for how people perceived the presidential debate on Tuesday.
Democratic voters think Vice President Harris was poised, well spoken and hard hitting. Republican voters think that President Trump was treated unfairly by the moderators who "fact checked" him several times and "fact checked" Vice President Harris zero times. It does not seem that either of them made a strong case to swing voters so the race remains too close to call.
Vice President Harris did not have to answer for the current administration's failures and that was a shame. We deserve answers for why the economy is in a tailspin, why childhood poverty has doubled, why America has become the largest facilitator of child trafficking in the world, why housing prices are skyrocketing and why our national debt is out of control to fund endless wars. We didn't get that. Instead we got a personality showdown.
The question that made me want to leave the planet was this: "Do you want Ukraine to win this war?"
It is a fundamentally ignorant question about the state of the war and only someone who risks neither their own life nor the life of someone that they love could ask it. President Trump's answer was that he wants the death to stop and the media perceives that as a failed answer because they either have not studied the conflict or want the war to continue. Or both.
Inflation was up by 2.5% in August but that is being spun as going down. HA!
Prices in August 2024 were 2.5% higher than they were in August of 2023. That still means that prices are going up, they just went up slower than they did from July 2023 to July 2024. As the Wall Street Journal points out, "Core inflation, a measure that excludes volatile food and energy costs, held roughly steady at 3.2%."
But the Journal calls this a "cooling streak." It's not a cooling streak. Prices are still increasing and they are already too high. Stocks were down on this news.
Media Bias Is Real, Here's How to Avoid It
As many of you long-time viewers already know, the heart of what we do here is bringing you the stories that the mainstream media misses or chooses to ignore.
Recently, we came across a tool that aligns perfectly with our mission. That tool is Ground News. If you’re tired of the misleading narratives in the media, you’ll appreciate this. It’s a way to see how different outlets are covering the same story, all in one place. Imagine being able to compare coverage on the same story from different news sources worldwide. Ground News has become a valuable tool for the team at Redacted to sort through the bias.
They don't generate the news; rather they compile it in one place and give you a visual breakdown of the news outlets. Try it right now and Redacted readers will get 40% off of their unlimited plan by signing up right here.
Palestinians now have a seat at the United Nations General Assembly, even though they are not considered a full member of the body. They cannot vote but they can can submit proposals and amendments and sit among member states.
Israel is furious about this. They have called it a "reward for terrorism." The Palestinian delegation called it "a historic moment for us."
The UN will vote next week on a Palestinian draft resolution demanding Israel end "its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory" within six months. It won't mean much, the UN has condemned Israel's attacks repeatedly and Israel does not have to do anything differently as a result.
The prosecutors for the International Court of Justice has asked judges to move quickly on his application for arrest warrants against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Meanwhile, Israel is reportedly pushing U.S. lawmakers to get the South African judicial body to drop the case, according to newly released classified documents.
Taylor Swift is trending because she has endorsed Kamala Harris for President and signed the post as a Childless Cat Lady.
Happy Gilmore is trending because Netflix announced that it is filming a sequel to the Adam Sandler film.
Target carts are trending because of this video in which a mom complains that the cupholders are in the wrong place and the holes in front could lead to lawsuits if toddlers get their fingers stuck in them. Who would sue over that? Gosh Americans are spoiled!
A photo of actor Orlando Bloom looking down at Kim Kardashian's booty is trending and his wife Katy Perry said, "I approve.”
Ozempic-maker Novo Nordisk has a new weight loss drug that comes in a daily pill form. They say that it can cause weight loss of up to 13% in three months.
The new weight loss pill is called Amycretin. It contains GLP-1, which is what is in the injectable weight loss drugs, and an amylin, which is a hormone that is said to make people feel full and control blood sugar.
In the injectable drugs, GLP-1 is associated with adverse events including nausea, vomiting and gastrointestinal side effects. One woman is suing Novo Nordisk, claiming that she will suffer diarrhea for the rest of her life after using Ozempic.
In this new pill, the side effects are the same. Novo Nordisk says that the include " mild to moderate in severity and of gastrointestinal nature including nausea and vomiting." But don't worry, they call that "safe and tolerable."
I guess that depends on your ability to tolerate constant nausea and diarrhea. If you're cool with that, just don't trust any fart while you're in public!
