In Case You Missed It

🗳️ Nikki Haley requested Secret Service protection yesterday claiming threats against her life. Her campaign team declined to detail the nature of the threats. Last year Robert Kennedy, Jr., who's father and uncle were both assassinated, requested Secret Service protection after a man broke into his home. His request has been denied three times by President Biden's Department of Homeland Security.

🚨 A newly released poll shows a shocking 20 point deficit for President Biden in a head to head match up against President Trump on questions of who better handles the economy. It's even worse on questions about border security, President Biden has a 35 point deficit to Trump in that category.

The Lead: Ukraine's Lost Weapons

I can't seem to find my anti-tank missile. Have you seen it?

A new audit by the U.S. Department of Defense finds over $1 billions dollars in American weapons are lost in Ukraine.  Gone, vanished, poof!

The weapons in question were specifically meant to be tracked like pigeons with a tag. In fact, the Pentagon originally designated this batch with what they call "enhanced end-use monitoring" so Ukraine could keep track of them. They did not.

The missing U.S. weapons include:

  • night-vision equipment
  • anti-tank missiles
  • attack drones
  • and small-diameter bombs.

The audit says these monitoring procedures are being ignored due to logistical failures and staff shortages. According to reports presented to the United Nations over 20% of U.S. weapons sent to Ukraine were sold on the black market.

Congress is set to approve another $60 billion in aid and weapons to Ukraine.

Hello! We're Bombing You in About an Hour

Warmongers like to tell you that they follow bombing etiquette: they notify targets before dropping bombs. As if that makes it okay.

Israel repeatedly says that it notifies Gaza neighborhoods before demolishing them. The U.S. said that they notified Iraqi targets before launching airstrikes last Friday.

Only they didn’t do that.

When pushed on the matter by The Intercept, a National Security Council spokesperson said this: “For operational security, we did not provide any kind of official pre-notification with specific details on these strikes.”

The strike killed seven civilians. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani declared three days of mourning.

Why did the U.S. bomb these people? In retaliation for rebel attacks in the Red Sea that had nothing to do with the victims. According to Antiwar.com:

“In January 2020, Iraq’s parliament voted unanimously to expel US troops in the wake of the US drone strike that killed Iranian Quds Force Gen. Qasem Soleimani and PMF leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. But the US refused to leave and has significant economic leverage over Iraq, making it difficult for an Iraqi prime minister to kick US troops out.”

More Bad News for Electric Vehicle Owners

credit: news.unl.edu

Electric vehicles are more dangerous than gas-powered vehicles, according to new data.

The University of Nebraska and the U.S. Army conducted tests “to better understand whether currently used guardrails and U.S. military protection measures against hostile vehicles are prepared for the growing number of EVs.”

Bottom line: They’re not. EVs are between 20 and 50% heavier than a gas-powered car and have a low center of gravity so they cannot be stopped by guardrails if they are out of control. Guardrails are designed to stop vehicles from flying off the ground, perhaps over a cliff or a bridge but they don’t work well for EVs. Watch these safety tests! Why didn’t authorities test this before EVs were greenlit for the road??

Also, because of the heavy weight, EVs can do more damage to a lighter gas-powered car if they collide. Again, why is this the “first-of-its-kind crash test,” according to researchers!?

So…they are less convenient, less safe, not proven to reduce emissions and use more rare-earth minerals than gas-powered cars. What a sell!

What's Trending?

World Cup is trending because FIFA released the schedule for the 2026 games which will be played on a continent, not in a country. Games will be played int he U.S., Mexico and Canada.

Whitney Wright is trending for traveling to Iran. She is an American pornography star so she is being accused of propaganda.

Maxx Morando is trending because he is the boyfriend of Miley Cyrus and his hair is 80’s hair band level awesome.

News By The Numbers

6 minutes. That is how long it took the Chilean team in the Police SWAT competition to get across the first challenge, a zip line. The country put up an all-female team and it didn’t go well. The video of this is trending because it is painful to watch. Belarus, Thailand, Chile and the Emirates also put up female teams. For context, the all-male team from Rwanda completed the whole course in a little over 3 minutes.

6%. That is how much shares of BP are up after the company announced buybacks and increased dividends.

10%. That is how much of its workforce Snap will lay off to “promote in-person collaboration.” I don't know what that means.

The Politics of Deadly Storms

credit: ap

California is experiencing a massive winter storm. At least three people have died from downed trees and Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency

The media is saying it is record breaking but is it? Well, it does look dangerous but it is not the worst storm in California history. We should not freak out about climate change. We should instead concentrate on climate adaptation and making our living conditions more safe for weather.

The worst storm since the founding of the state of California was between December 1861 and January 1862 which dumped nearly 10 feet of rain and submerged most of the Central Valley under 15 feet of water. This week, Los Angeles has experienced about 7 inches of rain.

Serious climate researchers will tell you that six megastorms more severe than the 1862 storm have occurred in California during the last 1,800 years at a regular interval of about 200 years. Given that the last devastating storm was over 160 years ago, California may be due for another one. Is this it? It sure looks dangerous but it is not out of the ordinary and no one has yet proven that it has anything to do with human-led climate change.
