The Lead: Take A Pay Cut, That’ll Stick It To Putin

credit: twitter

A cabinet minister in the UK says that nurses should not strike because of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Um…what? Let’s see if I can follow that logic.

Nurses are striking because they are underpaid and can’t make ends meet due to economic sanctions that have crushed the economy and sent the cost of living through the roof. But if they strike because of that pain, they are supporting Putin because the politician wants those nurses to show Putin that they can take it? So by striking they are helping Putin?

Wow, that was a stretch. I might have hurt myself trying to follow that.

Speaking of the war in Ukraine, President Zelensky’s government has accused Elon Musk of hiding trends related to the country’s conflict with Russia on Twitter. Maybe they shouldn’t do that while they are relying on Musk’s free internet access.

What is a ‘Woman’ or a ‘Man’?

credit: voa

Cambridge Dictionary has updated its definitions of “man” and “woman” to include people who were not born as those sexes. These changes were made in October but were brought to light this week.

The definition of a woman is “an adult human female,” but it also includes anyone who “identifies as female though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth.” The definition of a man is “an adult human male” but also now includes “an adult who lives and identifies as male though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth.”

While this is just a definition in a dictionary, people who are critical of gender ideology worry that it will harm women by allowing men into single-sex spaces. This has been the argument of author J.K. Rowling who this week funded a rape shelter in Scotland that is for biological women only.

Speaking of single-sex spaces, a lesbian artist in Norway is under investigation for saying that men cannot be lesbians. I’ve said it over and over, gender ideology can be homophobic if we’re not careful. What do gay rights even mean anymore?

DeSantis Takes on the Bio-Pharmaceutical Complex

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says that he will petition the state’s Supreme Court to convene a grand jury to investigate the pharmaceutical companies for their conduct related to the Covid vaccine.

Specifically, he is interested in what the vaccine makers told us, what they knew, and what they did not know. Vaccine makers have a lot of immunity when it comes to the administration around the vaccine but they do not have immunity to the dissemination of information. “In Florida it is against the law to mislead or to misrepresent, particularly when you’re talking about the efficacy of a drug,” he said.

In the same panel, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo said that he has commissioned research to “assess sudden deaths of individuals in good health who received a COVID-19 vaccine.”

U.S. Allows Genocide in Yemen to Proceed

Two years ago President Biden vowed to stop supporting the Saudi-led genocide in Yemen, with weapons and money. That was two years ago, and nothing has changed.

The United States will not vote on a bill to end support of the war and genocide in Yemen after Senator Bernie Sanders withdrew support for the bill on Tuesday.

The Yemen War Powers Resolution would have ended the U.S. funding of Saudi Arabia for its part in the war on Yemen. Sanders withdrew support for the bill after he was informed that the President would veto it.

So… carry on with your genocide.

News By The Numbers

$350 million. That is the amount that the San Francisco Giants will pay as a salary to Carlos Correa in a freshly-signed 13-year contract. It is the most expensive contract in franchise history.

81.55 million. That is how many viewing hours Netflix wracked up on the Harry & Meghan documentary.

9. That is how many babies born at the same time make up a nonuplet. Last year a woman gave birth to nonuplets in Morocco, and after a year of care, they were able to come home on Tuesday.

30%. That is the amount of Democratic voters that think that Joe Biden should seek re-election in 2024, according to a new poll. Most of those who said that he should not have cited his age as the reason.
