Lead: Iran Ready To Strike Back at Israel “directly”

Iran says that it will attack Israel in retaliation for the killing of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The New York Times reports that “Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has issued an order for Iran to strike Israel directly.” The Ayatollah said that it is Iran’s “duty” to take revenge on X.

Israel has not taken responsibility for the killings but the U.S. says that it will back Israel if any parties retaliate for it. Israel was reportedly targeting Haniyeh as a Hamas leader but he had not lived in Gaza for years. He lived mostly in Qatar. He was killed in Tehran while traveling to the inauguration of the new president after the former president died in a suspicious plane crash. The New York Times reports that the building where he was killed had a previously-planted bomb that had been there for two months. The former president died two months ago. Is this a coincidence?

Leaders in the region are saying that strikes like this derail peace negotiations. They certainly do not contribute to peace, do they?

Is Kamala Black or Not?

Is Vice President Kamala Harris black or not? This is such a dumb question but the Internet is debating it anyway.

Harris’ father was Jamaican-American and her mother was Indian. She is mixed race. Republicans have accused her of playing up her races when it suits her. President Trump on Wednesday said that Harris “happened to turn black” recently.

“She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?” he said.

Again, dumb question. If she wants to relate to people based on their skin color, let her try. One would hope that voters would not award points based on that but rather on the real issues such as the economy, crumbling border security, crime, child sex trafficking, foreign policy and civil liberties. When we hyper focus about race, we’re all losing.

Russia and America Swap Prisoners

Jailed Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich (seen in the middle) was released in a prisoner swap with Russia alongside U.S. Marine Paul Whelan (left).

The prisoner exchange included 26 people and took place in Turkey. The Telegraph calls this “the biggest prisoner swap between the US and Russia since the Cold War.”

Gershkovich was sent on assignment to Russia by the Wall Street Journal and arrested for spying. Whelan was a U.S. Marine who was also charged with espionage. The Biden administration left him in Russia in 2022 and instead opted to exchange Britney Griner last year, who was charged with drug posession.

New Olympic Event: Men Punching Women In The Face

Angela Carani is trending because she forfeited a boxing match in the Olypmic games against Imane Khelif, an Algerian boxer who failed at least two biological sex tests, which showed that Khelif has XY chromosomes.

XY chromosomes means that a person is male. Khelif has previously been banned from competing in women’s boxing by the International Boxing Association (IBA) because of this but the International Olympic Committee allowed Khelif into the women’s competition.

Carani took to the ring to face Khelif but abandoned the match after just 46 seconds. She said that she was hit so hard in the nose that she couldn’t breathe.

Khelif is not the only male person to be competing in women’s boxing. Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting is also competing and has XY chromosomes.

The IBA released this statement about the IOC’s decisions to let these athletes compete with women after being previously banned in their events. They say that their decisions to ban these two from women’s events were “legally binding” and that they are concerned “over the inconsistent application of eligibility criteria by other sporting organizations, including those overseeing the Olympic Games. The IOC’s differing regulations on these matters, in which IBA is not involved, raise serious questions about both competitive fairness and athletes’ safety.” They urge the “interested parties to seek answers directly from the IOC.”
