HelloFresh

Happy Wednesday.

In Spain, if you put lentils in your grocery cart, it apparently means that you’re looking for a long-term relationship. An upside down pineapple in your cart means that you’re looking for something more temporary. These are the rules of “la hora de ligar,” a TikTok trend where singles go cruising for dates in the grocery store.

Lead: Ukraine Shatters

The Ukrainian government is in shambles after top officials have been replaced. The media is reporting that President Zelensky is firing them but many say that they are resigning.

According to RT, “Zelensky’s deputy head of office, Rostislav Shurma, was fired on Tuesday, according to a decree posted on the office’s website. No reason was given for his dismissal.” Meanwhile several have handed in resignation letters including “Vice Prime Minister for European Integration Olga Stefanishina, Minister for Strategic Industries Aleksandr Kamyshin, Minister of Justice Denis Maliuski, and Minister of Environmental Protection Ruslan Strilets.”

Why are they doing this? Could it be because of the heavy losses in the Kursk offensive, a place where the war was never supposed to be in the first place? Anyone can see that Ukraine has downplayed its death toll in order to keep Western nations from supporting its war. President Trump admitted this on a podcast this week.

“They lie about the numbers,” he said. “They try and keep [the numbers] low. They knock down a building that’s two blocks long, and they say one person was mildly injured. No, no, a lot of people were killed… millions of people,” Trump said.

Even FT, which has supported the war in Ukraine with blind faith, says that this move could “consolidate power” but Zelensky says that it will “give new strength” to Ukraine’s institution. He’s full of it and people are dying as a result.

Israel Expands Its War

Israel says that it is just getting started expanding its war in the West Bank.

“Last week, Israel launched its largest attack on the West Bank since 2002, with raids focused on Jenin and Tulkarm in the north,” Antiwar.com reports.

“The Jenin operation is just the beginning,” a security official told Israel Hayom.

Israel says that it considers the West Bank the “second most critical front.”

Jenin officials report that Israel destroyed “70% of the roads and infrastructure in the city, and about 80% of the water has been cut off to residents.”

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said the West Bank should be evacuated in the same manner that they have called for evacuations of Gaza with an aim for Israeli control of the region.

Why are they doing this? Hamas is not in control in the West Bank so their war with Hamas would logically not extend to the West Bank. One Palestinian described life there “like a horror movie.”

Broke California Giving Out Money

California Democrats have voted to pass AB-1840, a bill that would pretty much assure another housing crisis like the one we had in 2008. Why? Because it will basically give away money for home purchases and allow low-income buyers – including illegal immigrants – to pay nothing for home loans.

The will would allow immigrants with no income, credit or cash to qualify for $150,000 loans that they do not pay back until they sell the house. These are taxpayer backed homes! This means that taxpayers who do work hard to qualify for a loan will subsidize those who do not qualify!

What’s worse, it has been reported that Blackrock has been buying up housing in California so if the state helps low-income people buy these homes, this is a wealth transfer of California taxpayer money to Wall Street.

Did we learn nothing from 2008? Low-requirement loans topple economies!

This is terrible economics but it may never amount to anything since, as The National Review reports, “even if Newsom does sign the legislation, it’s unlikely that any illegal immigrants will receive money from the program anytime soon: the program is broke, and lawmakers haven’t approved new funding.”

Volvo Ditches EV Plans

Volvo is the latest carmaker that is ditching its plan to sell all electric cars by 2030.

That’s because it was never a fully baked plan. Charging stations are expensive, often powered by wasteful power plants, and too scarce to depend upon. Also, consumers just don’t want them.

Last week we reported that Ford and General Motors have also walked back their EV goals. Automakers are still paying lip service to EV goals but leaving much room for withdrawal.

According to FT, Volvo now says that it will “aim to turn 90 to 100 per cent of its global sales to electrified vehicles, which also includes plug-in hybrids — a segment Volvo said it would continue to invest in amid growing consumer demand.”
