The good news is that China is our friend this week! President Trump had a positive trip to Asia and now the U.S. Department of War and the Chinese Peopleâs Liberation Army have agreed to set up direct military-to-military communication channels to âdeconflict and de-escalateâ incidents in the Indo-Pacific.
â˘ď¸ President Trump announced a directive to resume testing of the U.S. nuclear weapons system but the U.S. Department of Energy Secretary clarified that the planned activity would involve âsystem testsâ and not actual nuclear detonations.

Lead: Trumpâs Sudden Crusade for Nigeriaâs Christians

Are we going to bomb Nigeria now? President Trump warned Nigeria that if Christians continue to be killed, the U.S. will “immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria” and “may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
He says that he directed the Secretary of War to prepare for an attack and Secretary Hegseth confirmed that “the Department of War is preparing for action. Either the Nigerian Government protects Christians, or we will kill the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
Are Christians actually at risk in Nigeria? They are. The scale of violence against Christians there has been widely documented.
Christians are also under threat elsewhere. This summer, ISIL claimed responsibility for a horrific church attack in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Why, then, the sudden singular focus on Nigeria? Why isnât the same energy being applied to places like Congo? Could it be due to Nigeria’s cozy economic relationship with China?
Israelâs Fuzzy Math: How âPrecisionâ Kills 35,000 Civilians

Israel supporters claim that UNICEF data proves that âthere was no famine in Gaza.’ Their proof? Arm measurements.
They point to mid-August data showing that fewer than 15% of children had upper-arm circumferences small enough to count as malnourished. Because those figures were âunweightedâ â not adjusted for age â they argue that the UN exaggerated hunger, since younger children naturally have smaller arms.
They also insist that UN models predicting over 10,000 starvation deaths were disproven when fewer than 200 were recorded.
The UN, meanwhile, claims that famine wasnât declared off arm size alone. Food consumption, mortality rates, and household surveys all pointed to a population on the edge of collapse. And gathering data in a war zone where aid convoys are bombed and families are displaced is hardly a lab-grade exercise.
In other words: Israelâs defenders are cherry-picking one data point from one week in August and calling it the whole story.
That same pattern of statistical gymnastics shows up again when the subject turns from hunger to death tolls.
Supporters of Israel also refute death numbers, claiming that Israel has killed “only” 1.5 civilians to every combatant, “an almost unheard-of level of care for civilians by the Israeli army.”
But that figure hinges on a redefinition of who counts as a combatant. During the Obama years, U.S. policy was to count every military-age male as a combatant to justify droning civilians. Israel does this too. They do not provide proof of guilt for people they kill or imprison and when they are caught killing journalists or medics, they apologize and promise to look into it.
So even if we accept the most conservative death count at 70,000 Palestinians killed, that means more than 35,000 of them were civilians. Is this what we would call an “unheard-of level of care for civilians”?
Pieces like that function as moral anesthesia. They take something unbearable, like tens of thousands dead, famine, siege, and wrap it in comforting language for readers who donât want to feel implicated. The message isnât âhereâs whatâs happening,â itâs âyou donât have to question your side.â
Thatâs the story the numbers were written to tell.

Itâs a MAGA rift, and conservatives are drawing battle lines: Tucker Carlson versus the pro-Israel wing, and the test is simple: if you back Israel, you get to define what MAGA means; if you donât, youâre a MAGA traitor.
Imagine caring more about a slogan than about children dying. What kind of movement is that?
Over the weekend, war-loving conservatives, otherwise known as neocons, took to the Republican Jewish Convention and issued all manner of condemnation against Carlson and people like him who are willing to question Israel’s influence in American politics and foreign wars.
I don’t think it is going to stick. Young conservatives are not willing to put foreign intervention above their own civil demands and they are certainly not afraid of threats from Senator Lindsey Graham to “beat your brains out.â
We should all find this exciting! Republicans are refusing to let endless foreign wars be papered over by party loyalty. They want their party to deliver on ending foreign interventions, not use MAGA as a cudgel to silence dissent.
Thatâs the intellectual honesty I wanted from Democrats during the Biden years when bad economic policy, endless aid packages, and social-media censorship went mostly unquestioned. Party loyalty should not eclipse basic principles.
I like this manifesto from the Liberty Lockdown. If Republicans do not hear this generation’s demands to end foreign interference, the next generation will burn the old house down and build something new. Maybe Democrats should join them!

The medical industry changed the way obesity is defined and guess what happened? They found that way more people count as obese than before.
A new study in JAMA Network Open looked at what happens when you move away from using BMI as the only measure of obesity. Instead, researchers added waist and body-fat distribution measurements â things like waist circumference and waist-to-height ratio â to better reflect metabolic risk. The result? Obesity rates jumped from 43% to nearly 69%. Thatâs a 60% increase just by changing the definition.
BMI came under fire for being racist and sexist so it was ditched as the sole measure of obesity. But now, with this broader definition, millions more Americans suddenly qualify as âobese,â and therefore as potential patients in need of medical management, meaning drugs, surgeries, or ongoing âweight care.â
It feels like that really backfired, huh?
