“Lieutenant Dan” is okay folks. The one-legged man who lives on a boat in Tampa decided to ride out the storm and he lived to tell, just like the famous Forrest Gump character. His real name is Joseph Malinowski.
In Case You Missed It
🌪️ Hurricane Milton did not bring the storm surge that was predicted but the wind and a record amount of tornadoes did their share of damage. Millions of people in Florida are without power and several died from the tornadoes. “The storm was significant, but thankfully this was not the worst-case scenario,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said at a briefing early Thursday.

On Monday, NATO will run annual drills to prepare for nuclear war. The war alliance insists that no real weapons will be used.
The drills will involve over 2,000 military personnel and 60 aircraft from 13 nations. It will be hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands and focus on the region around “the United Kingdom, the North Sea, but also Belgium and the Netherlands.”
The drills, called Operation Steadfast Noon, will last two weeks. New NATO head Mark Rutte indicated that these drills are necessary to respond to a potential Russian nuclear escalation.
“In an uncertain world it is vital that we test our defense and that we strengthen our defense so that our adversaries know that Nato is ready, and is able to respond to any threat,” Rutte said.
In other words: They hope the world watches and that the military exercise is formidable enough to let enemies know that NATO’s defense is “credible and assured.”

Core prices for items such as food and energy was up 3.3%, which was up from 3.2% in August. This was also above expectations.
The Biden/Harris administration keeps saying that the economy is much better than it has been but since taking office, prices are up 20.5% and joblessness has only improved through government jobs, which means that the government has expanded and federal debt will continue to skyrocket to absorb that.
The New York Times calls this bad news the October surprise for the Harris campaign. Economist Peter St. Onge describes it thus: “two bumbled Hurricanes and a bumbled Middle East War that could send energy prices soaring just in time for the election” could “cut the wrong way for” the Harris campaign. Watch how he spells out how a war with Iran would bring about another 1970s-level oil crisis for us all.
375. That is how many employees will be laid off at a french fry factory in Washington due to low demand for frozen potatoes. The factory announced it will close the plant in Connell, Washington.

5.3%. That is how much revenue was down for Ikea this year, the first time the company has experienced a revenue decline since 2020.
A professor from the University of Kansas said that men who won’t vote for Kamala Harris should be lined up and shot. The university put him on leave after the video was released online.
Free speech advocacy group FIRE says that they are looking into whether or not this was a violation of the professor’s First Amendment rights.
“The First Amendment protects jokes – including brief, off-topic ones,” the group said.
Is this a tricky case or clear cut? Humor is a civil right but was this humor? Alternatively, can the university have standards of decorum that prevent humor about violence? That sounds like a good idea in theory but it would be a slippery slope. After all, if you stand for free speech, you have to stand for speech you don’t like. What do you think?
Four journalists from The Grayzone were detained in Israel and one of them is still in custody.
American Grayzone journalist Jeremy Loffredo was captured and beaten while he was on assignment in Israel. He was with three other journalists, including Andrey X, who said on social media that he was “beaten, blindfolded, and taken to an Israeli military base.” Andrey and two others were released but current reports are that Loffredo is still in custody without his phone.
This was just hours after another Grayzone journalist pushed the state department on its duplicity in war crimes in Ukraine and Gaza. Could this be related?
The United States pulled out all the stops to get Russia to release Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich, who was detained by Russia for months after reporting on sensitive state information. Will it do the same now that one of our own is detained by Israel, a supposed ally?
What’s Trending?

Rafael Nadal is trending because he announced his retirement from professional tennis after more than two decades of professional tennis. He is 38 years old.
Cheree Peeples is trending because of a new documentary about how the Black mother was arrested on orders of Kamala Harris when she was the California Attorney General because her daughter had missed too much school. The daughter has sickle cell anemia. The family had kept up with her school work and appropriately communicated with the school but the mother was arrested anyway because of Harris’ declared war on truancy. After a two-year court battle, the woman did avoid jail time and charges were dropped. Watch RFK Jr. explain it here.
Anderson Cooper is trending for standing in dangerous places and getting hit in the face by storm debris during his coverage of Hurricane Milton. The object that hit him was styrofoam and he seems to be okay thankfully.
