Cottage cheese is “the new avocado.” That means it is in vogue, or rather back in vogue. According to Clayton, it was never out of vogue.

Lead: Inflation Still Scorching Shoppers

credit: wsj

U.S. inflation was up by less in July. This does not mean prices are going down, despite headlines saying that inflation is “cooling.” This only means that they are going up less fast.

The media frames this as a win because experts had expected a 3% increase. This nominally smaller number lays the path for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates in September.

This really doesn’t help consumers much. The cost of housing rose faster in July than it did in June and the unemployment rate is still up to 4.3%. Those who are working see lower wages and earnings than ever.

It’s not great, no matter how you spin it yet the government shows no sign of decreasing their spending. Congress has to agree on a new plan to fund the federal government by September 30 to avoid a shutdown and so far there is no consensus. Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before.

Gaza Death Toll Breaks New Record

credit: flash90

Palestinian authorities say that the death toll from the war in Gaza and the West bank is nearing 40,000 people, including newborn twin babies who were killed in air raids on Tuesday.

The Cradle reports that Israel has arrested at least 10,000 people across the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem since October 7. This does not include arrests in Gaza because there is no accurate reporting on those arrests.

Haaretz reports that Israel is using these prisoners as human shields when invading Gaza. They dress them in Israeli uniforms and send them into battle first during operations. Is this official protocol? According to Haaretz, “The senior ranks know about it.”

Amid all of this inhumanity, the U.S. approved over $20 billion in military aid to Israel on Tuesday, including F-15 fighter jets and tank munitions. This brings the total in arms deals to Israel to five.

Media Bias Is Real, Here’s How to Avoid It

americanfinancing

As many of you long-time viewers already know, the heart of what we do here is bringing you the stories that the mainstream media misses or chooses to ignore.

Recently, we came across a tool that aligns perfectly with our mission. That tool is Ground News. If you’re tired of the misleading narratives in the media, you’ll appreciate this. It’s a way to see how different outlets are covering the same story, all in one place. Imagine being able to compare coverage on the same story from different news sources worldwide. Ground News has become a valuable tool for the team at Redacted to sort through the bias.

They don’t generate the news; rather they compile it in one place and give you a visual breakdown of the news outlets. Try it right now and Redacted readers will get 40% off of their unlimited plan by signing up right here.

Harris Campaign Caught Editing News Headlines

credit: axios

The Kamala Harris campaign has been editing news headlines and using them as campaign ads. The ads mimic real news results but in a way that flatters Harris or denigrates the Trump campaign. It is very misleading if not…misinformation, right?

Axios reports that “According to Google’s ad transparency center, the Trump campaign isn’t running these types of ads, but this technique has been used by campaigns before.”

Google says that this does not violate their policy so they will allow it because the ads do say that they are sponsored. The ads link to real news stories from the outlets they purport to be from but when you click them, you see the non-altered headline. Axios asked spokespeople from the outlets if they knew about this and they said that they didn’t.

What do you think? Is this deceptive or fair game? I agree with Reason’s assessment: “I honestly fail to see the reason for editing these ads to make it look like these news outlets are on Harris’ side—the original headlines are flattering enough.”

What’s Trending?

Chick-fil-A is trending because the restaurant is bringing back the banana pudding milkshake.

Python is trending because the annual Florida Python Challenge is currently going on.

Liz Truss is trending because she was promoting her book when a prank on the screen behind her said “I crashed the economy.” She did not find it funny.

Introducing Sloth Fever

Beware of “sloth fever.” Experts say that a new virus is springing up in Europe from travelers to Cuba and Brazil. It is called the Oropouche virus (OROV).

The disease is in the same family as Zika virus and, like Zika, can cause miscarriages and birth defects. It is not currently transmissible from person to person. It is mainly spread by insect bites but it originates in sloths, hence the name.

Symptoms can include headache, fever, muscle aches, stiff joints, nausea, vomiting, chills, or sensitivity to light. Most people survive this but the first deaths were reported in Brazil last month and a pregnant woman lost her baby at the 30th week of pregnancy in June.

News By The Numbers

$36 billion. That is how much Mars paid to buy Pringles maker Kellanova.

26%. That was how much of the voting-age population turned out for Wisconsin’s election on Tuesday, a 60-year high for voter turnout.

16%. That is how much vocational school enrollment was up last year. This means that more students are trying to find vocational jobs instead of try their hand at four-year universities. The majority of them are men but more women are doing the same too.
