Lead: Trump’s Cabinet of Curiosities
elise stefanik credit: nytimes
President Elect Trump has appointed three marquis members of his cabinet: Elise Stefanik will serve as Ambassador to the United Nations, Lee Zeldin will serve as Administrator to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Stephen Miller will serve as Deputy Chief of Staff for policy.
There is much speculation that Marco Rubio has been appointed as Secretary of State but the President-Elect did not formally announce that on Truth Social as he has other appointments. Fox News also reports that Mike Waltz has been named as National Security Advisor but that also has not been confirmed by Trump himself. Kash Patel is also reported to be considered to run the CIA but again, this is not confirmed.
I am on bended knee that at least the Rubio news is an unfounded rumor. Rubio has blood on his fangs over the war in Ukraine. Stefanik is also not a Redacted favorite. We have compared her to Dolores Umbridge, the authoritarian mouthpiece from the Harry Potter books.
Are these rumors outrage bait for the antiwar supporters who voted for Trump or is this an indication that the swamp is too big to drain? Or are these leaks meant to expose the leakers? We’ll have to wait to see.
The United States launched multiple strikes in Syria on Monday. US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that it launched “strikes against nine targets in two locations associated with Iranian groups in Syria in response to several attacks on U.S. personnel in Syria over the last 24 hours.”
According to Antiwar.com, “the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that four members of Iran-aligned Shia militias were killed and nine were wounded.”
Iran has said that it will respond to Israel’s retaliation in October but it is unclear whether the United States would be included in this retaliation.
In Gaza, Reuters reports that “an Israeli airstrike killed seven people late Monday at a café near the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, Palestinian medics said, bringing the death toll from Israeli strikes since Sunday night to at least 37.”
In Lebanon, at least 14 people were killed in what Antiwar calls the “northernmost attack on Lebanese soil.” The attack hit a “shelter for refugees in the far north village of Ain Yaaqoub.”
Israel has not commented on either attack.

Wicked Toys

Mattel has apologized that boxes for the Wicked movie dolls had a porn website printed on them. They called it an “unfortunate error.”
Who in the Land of Oz would believe that a porn site could accidentally get printed on a toy box? Do they have no copy editors?
Instead of linking to the Wicked movie site, the box linked to an adult film site called Wicked Pictures. The dolls were pulled from retailers this week but images of the packaging are still on social media.
Britain Wants to Help Kill People Just Like Canada

A new bill in the United Kingdom would legalize assisted dying because I guess we’re not learning from Canada.
Labour MP Kim Leadbeater says that her bill has strict safeguard measures to prevent it from being abused and that fewer than 1,000 people per year would use it. It would require two doctors to sign off on a death proposal plus a high court judge. She says that it is strictly for “terminally ill people who’ve got less than 6 months to live.”
The bill does not prevent doctors from suggesting assisted dying to patients, which is something that is reportedly happening at astonishing rates in Canada. Recent reports show that the practice is being “abused” in Canada and disproportionately offered to people on lower incomes for conditions as common as hearing loss.
Leadbeater says that there is “no legal risk of [the bill’s] scope being widened by the courts on human rights grounds, because of the strictly limited definitions in the bill and the failure of previous challenges in British and European courts.”
Only that is what Canadians were promised when MAID was put into place too and now the high courts are considering legislation to expand assisted dying options to minors and people with mental illness.

44 days. That is how many days that one trend asks users to Boycott Boots for this Christmas advertisement, which many are calling a “woke monstrosity.” It stars Bridgerton actress Adjoa Andoh who ruffled feathers last year for observing that the King’s Coronation featured a “terribly white balcony” full of his family.
