The U.S. has reportedly sent “a guided-missile submarine to the Middle East and is speeding up the arrival of an additional aircraft carrier as the region braces for a possible Iranian response to the killing of Hamas’s political leader in Tehran.” That is in addition to an additional $3.5 billion in Foreign Military Financing to Israel.
The Wall Street Journal reports that “U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant by phone Sunday that the deployments strengthen the U.S. military posture in the Middle East in light of recent tensions and reflect a ‘commitment to take every possible step to defend Israel.'”
This comes as the White House is asking Israel to investigate rape of Palestinian prisoners. None of that holds up any support for Israel clearly. If anything, it’s a speed bump for the unimpeded flow of aid.
Israel continues to warn that Iran will retaliate after Israel attacked a Hamas leader inside of Iran. They also say that they may launch a preemptive strike if Iran does not strike first. Does that make sense? Israel is waiting for a retaliation but if it does not come, they’ll strike first?

The Telegraph reports that Russia set fire to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant but several other sources say that it was Ukraine who targeted the plant and in fact Ukraine has been doing so for more than a year.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stationed experts at the plant last year when Ukraine started to shell it. They said that plant officials informed them that the “cooling towers was targeted by an alleged Ukrainian drone attack” but the plant is currently not in danger of a nuclear explosion.
Why would Russia hit a nuclear plant in an area that it now controls? This is now Russia after the people in the region voted to join the country. Why hit your own power plant and cause a nuclear fall out to your own people? Ukrainian President Zelensky says that it is to “blackmail” Ukraine. That makes no sense.
0. That is how many points Rachael Gunn, AKA Raygun, scored in the women’s Olympic Breaking competition but she is now immeasurably famous for being so terrible. I myself have spent countless hours on the memes. I can’t get enough but sadly this is all we’ll get because, according to The Telegraph, “breaking will not feature at Los Angeles 2028.” Shame.
11,000. That is how many boxes of chicken wings a school district employee in Illinois stole during the pandemic. She was sentenced to nine years in prison.
16. That is the age of U.S. track star Quincy Wilson. He is the “youngest male track and field athlete to compete in the Olympics.” The gold metal winner has to go back to high school now.
A new poll shows that more voters trust Vice President Kamala Harris “to handle the economy” than former President Trump. Why? I cannot figure out why.
The economy is piss poor under the Biden administration but voters magically do not associate Harris with the Biden administration. More Americans than ever say that they worry they can’t pay their bills “most or all of the time,” which is higher than that metric was during the 2008 financial crisis and yet a vote for Harris would be “Bidenomics double time all the way down,” according to economist Peter St. Onge.
Harris has not said how she will handle inflation, joblessness, or the doubling of housing costs but 42% of voters say that they trust her to handle the economy compared to 41% that said that they trust President Trump.
This may make you feel better about your next vacation. A new study shows that air travel gets 50% safer every decade. In fact, the risk of death by air travel based on accidents was 1 in 13.7 million over 2018-22.
That’s excellent yet the paper says that there may be evidence that air travel caused deaths during the pandemic due to Covid-19 transmissions. The paper says that “in-flight transmission of Covid-19 may have caused thousands of passenger deaths.” Given what we know now about the over reporting of Covid deaths, I’m going to take that one with a grain of salt.
Researchers said that some parts of the world had safer air travel stats than others. “The US, most of Europe, Australia, Canada, China, Israel, Japan, and New Zealand were found to have 36.5 times fewer fatalities per passenger boarding in 2018-2022 than most countries of the Middle East, South America, and South Africa, as well as South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Türkiye.”
