Lead: Budget Crisis Crisis

House Speaker Mike Johnson yanked a government funding bill just before putting it up for a vote after several Republicans said that they would not support it.
The bill included a provision to overhaul voting laws but that was a ruse. No major voting laws will be changed this late in the election. The bill also included NO spending cuts so this debt ceiling bit will happen again under the speaker's proposals.
Representative Thomas Massie went viral this week for this video in which he calls the bill "failure theater" and vowing to vote no on it.
Other Republicans opposed the bill because it did not include enough money for defense. Right. We don't spend enough on defense? Ah hem.
Speaker Johnson will reportedly go back to the drawing board to think of a way to avert a government shutdown by September 30.
Studies To Prep For Nuclear War?
The U.S. is preparing for a nuclear war in Europe. The Defense Department has put out a call for a modeling study to look into "the effects of nuclear weapons on agricultural systems." The report is to focus on regions "beyond Eastern Europe and Western Russia."
Why do we need this? Do we think that nuclear conflict is imminent?
Last month the Biden administration updated its nuclear policies and Russia did the same. So now we're looking into how the food system would function in the event of nuclear war? I'd love to see the same efforts put into avoiding nuclear war!

Get Lost WHO!
The House of Representatives will consider an amendment to tell the World Health Organization (WHO) to pound sand with their global powers treaty. GOOD!
Representative Thomas Massie put forth an amendment to recognize that the U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land and any WHO agreement and treaty that overrides it is invalid, illegal and unenforceable. He said this about it on X: "Treaties don't override the Constitution. Laws that seek to bind Americans in the United States must first pass both the House and Senate."
Would this pass the Democratically-controlled Senate? Who knows. Democrats are not that concerned with civil liberties other than the right to an abortion. Also, there have been other proposals in Congress to prevent the President from signing the WHO treaty without permission from Congress but they haven't gone far so we'll see but I applaud the effort!

America Runs (Away From) Dunkin Donuts

Dunkin Donuts has avowed not to advertise on conservative leaning platforms, including Rumble, according to Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski.
Advertisers representing Dunkin Donuts said that the "right wing culture of [Rumble] is too polarizing from a brand suitability standpoint."
Now conservatives are sharing the familiar calls for boycott with the hashtags #BoycottDunkinDonuts and #GoWokeGoBroke. Popular X user Catturd's post has been viewed over 2 million times in which he suggests that his followers "BudLight @dunkindonuts."
Bud Light has still not recovered from the boycott of 2023. It fell from the number one beer in the U.S. to number three and has remained there. Will this happen to Dunkin? (Personal opinion: It's a chemical factory so no big loss if you skip it for any reason.)
