The White House has approved the state of emergency in Florida and ordered federal assistance in advance of Hurricane Milton. The relief will be handled by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Milton is currently a Category 4 hurricane and is expected to make landfall on the West Coast of Florida on Wednesday. FEMA is running evacuation shuttles and hosting residents in shelters, which can be found here.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has ordered all tolls to be suspended as traffic builds up in evacuation routes. Other state preparations for state and local services can be found here.
The Weather Channel predicts that the storm will gain strength today and possibly "weaken gradually on approach to Florida because of increasing wind shear and dry air." That weakening "won't reduce the impacts we see from Milton, including storm surge and destructive winds. Milton will also grow larger on approach to Florida, allowing its wind, storm surge and rainfall impacts to sprawl out across a bigger area."

European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen will have to answer for how she procured the Covid-19 vaccines for Europe over private text messages with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla.
Von der Leyen was just re-elected as the EC president and has seemed to evade scandal after scandal. But this one warrants investigation for the people of Europe. The court will reportedly commission a 15-person panel of judges to determine if she illegally withheld private messages.
This is not the first time that she has "lost" communications. In 2020, Germany cleared her of accusations of awarding lucrative contracts from the defense ministry to outside consultants without proper oversight when she was the Defense Minister. She was cleared of this but investigators found data from two of her phones was wiped. That's convenient and familiar, no?
What could happen to her if it is found that she was wheeling and dealing money that belonged to the people of Europe based on influence and lack of oversight? Probably nothing because she's slippery but one can hope.

BRICS vs. U.S. Dollar

In advance of the BRICS Summit, Nigeria announced that it will stop using the U.S. dollar for oil trades and instead sell crude oil in local currencies.
India, however, will stick with the U.S. dollar for international trade and transaction for now. The country says that they have no plans to "aggressively push the de-dollarization agenda."
Cuba has officially requested to join BRICS, and the Pakistani ambassador to Russia recently reinforced Pakistan's desire to join as well to protect itself from the arbitrary nature of U.S. sanctions.
"We have shown our seriousness to the Russian side that we would be willing to join the BRICS," he said. "This is the way forward."
$47. That is how much Elon Musk's Political Action Committee is offering to pay for every voter in a swing state that is referred to sign this pledge to support the First and Second Amendments.
48%. That is how many Russians say that they abstain alcohol in a new survey, up from 27% in 2004. Part of this is due to the government's plan to reducing alcohol consumption by 12.3% by 2030.

Cissy Houston is trending because the 91-year-old gospel singer and mother of Whitney Houston died on Monday.
Xavier Worthy's mom is trending because the Kansas City Chief's wide receiver scored a touchdown and gave his mom the football in a sweet mother-son moment. She had him when she was 18 so she looks young for an NFL mom.
60 Minutes vs. Candidates
On Monday, 60 Minutes made a big deal that Donald Trump was the first presidential candidate not to appear on their show in the month before an election in 50 years. They sure think a lot of themselves and that tradition.
Nowhere in this lament does it apologize for the last time Trump did an interview with 60 Minutes. He walked out on Leslie Stahl after she insisted that the Hunter Biden laptop story was a fake and that there was no proof that his campaign had been spied on. The FBI has proven both things to be true. The FBI used the laptop as evidence in its case against Hunter Biden and the FBI's Dunham Special Counsel investigation showed that there was in fact proof that the Clinton campaign had spied on the Trump campaign in 2016. Stahl adamantly insisted both things were crazy conspiracies.
Shouldn't 60 Minutes apologize not only to Trump but the viewers? Viewers (like me) believed that they had somehow investigated this and came up empty but had they actually investigated it, they would have found a lot there.
Kamala Harris sat for an interview and it was surprisingly tough. Bill Whitaker pushed her on her failed border policies and expensive economic plans more than one might think. He asked why she had flipped on so many issues and she said this: "No one should be able to take for granted that they can just declare themselves a candidate and automatically receive support."
Isn't that exactly what happened when the Democrats threw out Joe Biden's primary win and put her in that position? Whitaker did ask her about hop-skipping the primaries. Color me surprised. Is he the last true journalist in the mainstream media?
