🚨 Thirsty – June 13 2024

bio

Happy Thursday.

Kids are pretty thirsty in Pittsburgh this summer because the city only has only one plumber and he has not been able to get around to turning on the water fountains. The city says that they probably won't be able to do it this year. Maybe next year, kiddos!

Lead: 10 More Years in Ukraine

The U.S. is expected to sign on to at least ten more years of supporting Ukraine, God help us!

The G7 summit of Western leaders kicks off this week in Italy and President Biden is expected to use this occasion to "commit the US to 10 years of arming and training the Ukrainian military and helping build up the country’s military-industrial complex. The agreement is not expected to specify an amount that the US will spend on supporting Ukraine."

This may be Zelensky's consolation prize for President Biden skipping his upcoming "peace summit" in Switzerland.

And what of those of us who do not want to continue to support this war? Could we reverse this by voting Biden out of office? Probably. According to Antiwar.com, "The deal could also be easily reversed by a future administration since it will be an 'executive agreement,' not a formal military treaty, which requires the approval of the Senate."

Gaza Ceasefire "Not Workable"

Hamas wants assurances that Israel will withdraw from Gaza in order to agree to the U.S. ceasefire proposal but U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinkin says that these proposals are not "workable."

The U.S. would never presume to ask Israel to withdraw from Gaza. Especially since Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made no bones about his desire to keep IDF presence in Gaza. He has not committed to withdrawing from Gaza in any way, despite this peace proposal.

Hamas wants assurances that the ceasefire would be permanent and Israel would withdraw from Gaza, which is a fairly rational request. Many Israeli officials want that too but they fear that Netanyahu's bloodlust will tank the deal. It seems those fears are founded.

Let Us Hear The Audio Recording… Or Else

House Republicans voted to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress because he refuses to hand over tapes of President Biden's interview with special counsel Robert Hur.

This means that they will refer him to the Department of Justice, which Garland is in charge of, so the DOJ will not likely prosecute. Which means that this could go to the courts.

The special counsel decided not to prosecute President Biden for his possession and handling of classified documents because they decided he was too elderly and frail to stand trial. The tapes of his two-day interview with the counsel have been classified at the highest level after the president invoked executive privilege to do so.

AG Garland said in a May 15 letter to the president that the “committee’s needs are plainly insufficient to outweigh the deleterious effects that the production of the recordings would have on the integrity and effectiveness of similar law enforcement investigations in the future.”

Deleterious effects for who exactly? Similar law enforcement investigations of who exactly? You see what is happening here, right?

What's Trending?

“Fire chicken” instant ramen noodles are trending becauase they have been recalled by the government in Denmark because they are too spicy.

#BringBackLikes is trending for people who say that they don't want likes to be hidden.

El Salvador is trending because the government made a huge bonfire out of a 2.7-ton pile of cocaine worth an estimated $67 million. It reminds me of this scene from Romancing the Stone.

 Like What You Like

X, formerly Twitter, will now hide likes on the individual level. They will still count and show how many likes a post gets but it will not show who what the posts specifically.

This is an important change because we live in a world where people have been punished for just liking things that are considered wrong-think. One university president was reprimanded and nearly fired for liking Tweets that are critical of surgery for trans-identifying minors. This amounts to social persecution for mere thought. The academic in question did not specifically SAY these things himself. He just indicated with a heart button that he agreed with someone else's freedom to say them.

Users can still track what they have liked and the post's author can too but no one else can so the mob cannot punish people for how they feel. Admittedly, I myself have stopped myself from liking posts for this very intimidation but no longer! I'm about to like with wild abandon now!
