U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer was boo’d while attending a memorial for three young girls who killed by a knife attack at their dance class. At least five other young girls are in critical condition and three others were wounded by a 17 year-old boy that is currently in custody.
Here are some of the things that were shouted at the Prime Minister:
“How many more children? Our kids are dead and you’re leaving already?”
“Here’s your photo opportunity.”
“Get the truth out!”
“Go away, you’re not wanted.”
“He can’t do shit, he’s meant to be the Prime Minister.”
Why were locals so upset by his visit? Because they feel that the attacker is being protected because he has yet to be named and because they feel that police are downplaying the fact that he was from immigrant parents. They also want to know if the boy was on a watch list but police won’t say.
After the memorial, riots broke out in a local mosque and a police van was set on fire. Police say that the violence was caused by thugs who were capitalizing on the tragedy. At least 22 police were injured. The aftermath of these riots can be seen here.
