Israel says that it has intercepted a missile from Hezbollah that was aimed at the headquarters of Mossad, the Israeli spy agency. No one was hurt but alerts still sent residents of Tel Aviv into their shelters.
Hezbollah claims that it is retaliating against the pager and walkie-talkie attacks from last week as well as Israeli strikes on Lebanon that killed hundreds of people, most of them civilians. Lebanon says that over 90,000 people are now displaced from the attacks.
This morning Israel expanded its airstrikes against targets in Lebanon. Israel’s Army chief says strikes in Lebanon are to prepare for a coming ground invasion by Israeli forces.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with the Gulf Cooperation Council in New York City today and said that the “risk of escalation in the region is acute. The best answer is diplomacy, and our coordinated efforts are vital to preventing further escalation.”
