The Louisiana Attorney General is suing the Department of Homeland Security and its leader, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas “following the illegal entry into the United States by a Chinese national” who has “a rare, aggressive, and drug-resistant form of tuberculosis, which carries high mortality rates,.” AG Liz Murrell says that this person “came into contact with hundreds of detainees and numerous non-detainees,” which “has put the health and safety of Louisiana and [the] American people at risk.”

Well great.

The AG asserts that this patient was identified on October 9 and that the state worked to contain it but when they demanded that ICE “commit to not releasing any potentially infected detainees without medical clearance by the Department of Health, ICE refused.”

AG Murrell is suing to stop ICE from its “stated intent… to release that detainee into Louisiana streets, its bus stations, and its airports.

The lawsuit claims that the patient has already come into contact with at least 200 detainees and untold numbers of others.

Other named defendants in the case include ICE, the CDC, and the National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention.

In a follow-up post, AG Murrell asks this: “No one is asking – why and how are Chinese nationals arriving at the southern border?”
