The Many Faces of Ukraine’s Dictator

Ukrainian President Zelensky is contradicting himself about peace talks. On Friday, he told Sky News that he was willing to give up control of lands that he has long-since lost in exchange for NATO protection but at an EU conference on Sunday he said thatUkraine would “never legally recognize any occupation of our lands” by Russia.

By this he means Crimea, Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye.

Zelensky said that Ukraine would not join NATO on conditions that it excludes those regions. “Such an invitation would be an automatic acknowledgment that all other [lost] territories are not just at risk, but also not Ukrainian. Ukraine will never agree to this. If there’s an invitation, it must include all territories.”

Ukraine does not have any prayer of regaining control of those places after the people and leaders in those places requested to join Russia and voted to do so. Ukraine’s military resistance has been utterly futile but that hasn’t stopped the Biden White House from fast tracking arms to Ukraine.

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said this on ABC this weekend? “President Biden directed me to oversee a massive surge in the military equipment that we are delivering to Ukraine so that we have spent every dollar that Congress has appropriated to us by the time that President Biden leaves office.”
