Could Julian Assange Be Set Free?

bipartisan resolution in Congress supports freeing Julian Assange. It is not a law. It is a plea to the Biden administration to protect the First Amendment and “drop all charges against and attempts to extradite Julian Assange.”

Assange is currently languishing in a high security prison in England where he has been fighting extradition to the United States. He has been charged under the Espionage Act for what is legitimate journalism.

The Australian government has also started to speak on his behalf as he is an Australian citizen. The United Nations Special Rapporteur on torture Nils Melzer has repeatedly spoken out about the horrendous treatment of Assange. On this matter, I suggest his book, “The Trial of Julian Assange.”

The U.S. resolution will force the Biden administration to respond to this as the First Amendment continues to whither and die on his watch. If you are a U.S. voter, tell your congressional representative to pass this resolution and free Julian Assange!
