Emergency Landings

What is going on with air travel?? A United Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Florida due to an “open door indicator light illuminated Wednesday.” This is the second emergency landing in less than a week due to equipment failure.

No one was hurt in either incident but it does not inspire confidence, does it? The FAA has grounded 171 Boeing 737 Max 9 planes “until operators complete enhanced inspections which include both left and right cabin door exit plugs, door components, and fasteners.”

Many things could lead to this but some say that Boeing has prioritized diversity over safety and have pointed out that the company’s SEC filings “reveal that in beginning 2022, the annual bonus plan to reward CEO and executives for increasing profit for shareholders and prioritizing safety was changed to reward them if they hit DEI targets.”

Maybe that is related and maybe it isn’t. That would be hard to prove but it is definitely worth considering. The CEO of Boeing apologized on Wednesday and said that the company would investigate “every step of the way.”
