President Trump said that his delegate had a “highly productive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin” on Wednesday and that “great progress was made!”
The President said that “Everyone agrees this War must come to a close, and we will work towards that in the days and weeks to come.”
How many times have we heard that in the last six months?
Now, The New York Times reports that the President intends to meet with President Putin “in person” next week and that Ukrainian President Zelensky will be there too. The White House confirmed that these plans were in the works.
Meeting or no meeting, the Trump administration is still reportedly planning to place sanctions on Russian trading partners, beginning August 8.
Should we expect more empty peace promises of peace or can we hold out some renewed home since this would be the first time an American leader has met with President Putin since 2021?
