Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before:
Two war criminals walk into a bar to meet with the source of their funding. The bartender says, “Mr. Netanyahu, Mr. Zelensky… your tab’s already been covered.”
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Zelensky will both meet with President Trump in the White House today. They came to town to pay their respects to the late Senator Lindsey Graham who championed each of their wars with the unbridled enthusiasm of a crack addict.
Both leaders say that they have “intel” for President Trump on their respective enemies. Netanyahu on Iran; Zelensky on Russia.
Fox News reports that Zelensky will provide the President evidence that Russia is helping Iran in its war against the U.S. The New York Post reports that Netanyahu will provide the President with evidence about Iran’s expanding nuclear facilities.
Whether the intelligence proves persuasive remains to be seen but the political incentive is obvious: if two separate wars can be framed as one interconnected conflict, the pressure for deeper U.S. involvement only grows. That may serve the interests of the governments seeking American support. It would not serve ours.
